His is one of the best manuals for creating beasts, angels, demons, wizards, and cursed castles. He even gives tips on making maps for lands where your creatures can roam. Great Book for Both Watercolor and Oil Painters

Advanced painters will be thrilled to 'get inside' a modern master's head, and enjoy being spared another how-to multi-step book. (Beginners will be inspired also, but there is not much instruction on the nuts and bolts of how to create a painting.) This book mostly explores the figure in interior and exterior settings (garden, street, beaches and his studio). Ken narrates his choices and the reasons why he paints what he does. I enjoyed his daring compositions, bold value, strong color use, and dashing brushstrokes. Ken paints mostly from life and his work has a great energy. He shows how his studies translate to studio paintings. There is a section on watercolor, drawing, and oil. He compares and contrasts the media and offers his insight on the artistic process. Much to learn from the text and the images in this book!

Excellent book for painter's of all levels.Ken Howard is a master in his use of shadow and light.This book contains lots of paintings,including the figure and is written in such a way that you feel Ken Howard is talking to you about painting ,his art,and that you have just been visiting his studio.

Kenoward - a Personal View : Inspired by Light

Ken Howard gives an excellent overview of his career as an artist, and superb insights into his working methods and motivation. There are no step-by-step exercises, which generally stiffle creativity. It is a very good book for all artists.
